GROUNDBREAKER CORPSES
Difficulty Rating:
For 2006, I had some extra time, and came across Spooky Blue's Groundbreaker Corpses. And I thought, what a great idea.
So, below are the list of materials for each. They are pretty easy to make, they just take time, but have a great effect.
First Corpse: "Come Give Daddy a Hug"
Materials:
- Cheap $6 resin skull from BIG LOTS
- Lots of newspaper
- Scrap Wood (base, support, shoulders)
- Carpet Adhesive (this can be found in the flooring section of Home Depot)
- Paper Towels
- Stain (I used some old mahogany stain I had lying around)
- HUGE NAILS (those big fat 8" long nails... used to stake him into the ground)
Extras:
- Fake moss (found at iParty ~Halloween) it was cheap, so I picked up a few bags
- Cheese cloth (to cover up his horrible shoulder/upper arm job)
- Beer. (helps with making all my projects, just look at the shoulders...)
- Air cap from a bike tire (that's what the eye is... I had a set of "eyes" for air caps on my mtn bike that I never used, and I could only find one, so, there's the one eye.)
The Base and Support
Ok, so here it goes... First, find something for the base. I used a 8" x 2' piece of plywood I
had lying about the workshop. For the support I used a roughly 2' piece of 1x2 wood I had lying around for the support, which was
wood-screwed to the base (many times, we want this to stand up and not fall over due to weight). Once I had the base and the support
put together, I used 1' pieces of lathe (you can get these in a bundle of about 50 from Home Depot for about $6, and the rest... either
patch your crumbling plaster walls, or, build a fence [more on the fence in another project still to come...]. I attached those
pieces near the top of the internal support to make shoulders. Ok, now that's done, time to add life to this creature.
The torso, arms, etc.
For the "body" of this wretched thing, I used Spooky Blue's EXCELLENT tutorial to build the ribcage, etc. I HONESTLY forget
how I made the arms (see beer in materials list...).... maybe I'll do a little surgery at some point and see what's under there. But, for the ribcage,
and coverings of whatever those arms are made if, I used newspaper. (see Spooky Blue's tutorial no need to reinvent the wheel!)
But the jist of it is, if the link is much too difficult to click on, is to roll newspaper into really tight rolls, and then start attaching it to the support, using anything that'll work. I used a mixture of duct tape, and staples.
And if you have any anatomical reference, use it. I did not for this one, and you can see it looks NOTHING like an actual ribcage. I didn't even think to feel for my own ribs to get an idea... (again, see Beer in the materials list.)
Second Attempt: "Inflamed Joints"
Materials:
- $5 Foam Skull from BIG LOTS
- Lots of newspaper
- Scrap Wood (base, support, shoulders)
- Carpet Adhesive (this can be found in the flooring section of Home Depot)
- Paper Towels
- Stain (I used some old mahogany stain I had lying around)
- HUGE NAILS (those big fat 8" long nails... used to stake him into the ground)
- Cheese Cloth (guts...)
