TOE-PINCHER COFFINS
Difficulty Rating:
We set out to craft life sized (6' tall) toe-pincher coffins, which we fully plan on re-using for our wives.
Below are a list of materials and further details on what we came up with, thanks to the excellent craftsmanship of Steve-O.
Main Materials:
- (2) 4x8 1/2" cheap-o plywood ($7 - $8 a sheet)
- Lengths of 2X2 (or whatever is cheapest)
- Gorilla Glue
- Drywall screws
- Paint (of your choosing)
Additional Materials (finishing touches):
- 6' Large Foam Chain
- Left Bucky Hand
- 1" Insulating Foam Board (available at most home improvement stores in 4x8 sheets)
- Cheap Shop Flourescent fixture
- (2) 4' flourescent blacklights
Step 1
- Mark off and cut out the top and bottom
- Cut 2X2's to length and screw to bottom as shown (rough cuts - use something smaller than the edge you are working with)
- See Step 4 for measurements.
Step 2
- Cut out sides from 2nd sheet of ply
- Screw to 2X2's as shown
Step 3
- Brace corners with more cut down 2X2's as shown
- We also added gorilla glue to help brace the corners, gorilla glue is the new duct tape
Step 4
Finished - On it's side
Fisished - Upright
Finished - Upright and Painted
Finished - Steve-O's rendition, with cut foam cross (detail)
This was attached with several drywall screws and Gorilla Glue
Cut from 1" pink foam board, with added "Spanish Moss" from a halloween party store applied with spray adhesive
Finished - Steve-O's rendition (detail)
Full view of closed coffin with a skull for decoration :)
Side panels were attached just as the cross, made from 1" pink foam board
Finished - Geoff's rendition (in-use)
Full view of Geoff's version of the coffin in use on Halloween 2006.
Added 6' foam chains that I purchased off of ebay for cheap
Secured chains to coffin via drywall screws.
Also added a left bucky hand I also purchased off of ebay to make it appear as if a skeleton was attempting escape
Inside were two 4' blacklight flourescent lights attached in a cheap shop flourescent fixture, which made the green paint "glow"
And as you can see, I cut a 3" hole into the back and pumped in fog from my cheap-o 400w fogger and cheap-o chiller
Finished - Steve-O's rendition (in-use)

A red light was added for a "creepier" effect
Small 400w fogger was also used to add fog to the prop
Using a homemade switch, a power driven motor could be activated to throw open and slam the lid quickly using a custom built linkage attached to the lid of the coffin
