More than you ever needed to know about the OMRON G5V-1 SPDT Relay
The OMRON G5V-1 Relay is a Low Signal SPDT (Single Pole, Double Throw... see below) 5V 1A mini relay. What is a relay? A relay is an
electrical switch that opens and closes a circuit, under the control of an external electrical circuit.
i.e., it can connect and disconnect two contacts, closing and opening the circuit respectively. Get it? A circuit is closed
when the two contacts connected - for example, when a lamp is switched on, the circuit is closed, and the light
comes on, connecting the wiring from the lamp, to the power source. When the circuit is open, they are not connected,
for example using the lamp again - the wiring is no longer connected to the power source, and the
light is not on.
SPDT can be defined as:
SPDT - Single Pole Double Throw. These have one row of three terminals. One terminal (common) switches between the other two poles. It is the same as a single change-over switch. In total, five terminals when the coil is also included.
